Aisling Brady McCarthy; Massachusetts; Irish nanny case: Her lawyers say it is still not clear how the child in her care died. "Evoke."

STORY: "Lawyers for Irish nanny Aisling Brady McCarthy claim it is still not clear how child in her care died," published by "Evoke" on January 15, 2015.

GIST: "Lawyers for Irish nanny Aisling Brady McCarthy, who is accused of killing baby Rehma Sabir, have argued it is still not clear how the infant died.
McCarthy, originally from County Cavan, has been charged with the murder of the one-year-old who was in her care at the family home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her defence team have said it was still unclear whether the child may have died from a genetic disorder or was killed by someone other than Aisling. ‘We’re still investigating,’ said Melinda Thompson, defence attorney for Aisling Brady McCarthy.........Attorneys for Aisling Brady McCarthy said a doctor rewrote and revised his report on the death of Rehma Sabir after another medical expert said the infant did not die from a rare genetic disorder. Ms Thompson said she was unsure what type of defence she will mount in the case against her client because defence experts have not yet had a chance to examine tissue samples taken from the child by a medical examiner and organs donated by the girl’s family following her death.  A medical examiner ruled the infant died of extensive head trauma as a result of being shaken, but an autopsy found that the child also had earlier bone fractures which occurred when she was not in Ms McCarthy’s care. At a hearing, Ms Thompson said Ms McCarthy’s defence team is still awaiting lymphocytes from the child’s spleen, which were harvested by the New England Organ Bank after the one-year-old died, days after she was found unconscious in her crib..........Ms McCarthy’s trial is scheduled to begin with jury selection on April 22nd in Middlesex County Superior Court outside of Boston."
